This week, we caught up with Thea Gustafsson, the creative force behind experimental pop act Becky and the Birds. In our chat with her, she discusses the creative journey leading up to the release of her debut album, Only Music Makes Me Cry Now. Bold in its vision, the record blends ethereal, ambient soundscapes with elements of 90s R&B to create something truly unique. During our interview, we get the inside track on Thea’s musical influences, her evolution as an artist and the personal transformation she underwent during the project's creation.
Following a brief hiatus, Some Other Time is back! As we step into the new year, we return with more interviews, fresh perspectives and in-depth profiles of some of our favourite artists and those who are shaping the sound of 2025. To kick things off however, we’re proud to introduce our Ones To Watch for the year ahead: Man/Woman/Chainsaw. Ahead of the release of their debut EP Eazy Peazy we caught up with the band post-rehearsal, in an undisclosed location to find out a little more about their journey to date and what they’re all about.
Early last month Geordie Greep released his debut album The New Sound to rapturous critical acclaim. The record, epic in its ambition, borrows from a rich array of musical styles while also laying down some of the most outrageous and daring narrative songwriting of the year. A couple of weeks ago, we caught up with Geordie to find out a little bit more about his creative genesis and his journey to becoming one of the most exciting solo artists in British music.
Last week, Frankie Archer released her brand new EP Pressure & Persuasion to a symphony of acclaim. Across four tracks, she tells the stories of several women and girls from centuries past whose experiences share a stark resemblance to today. The release is yet another jewel in the crown of Archer’s growing oeuvre, coming hot on the heels of her debut Never So Red, born into the world late last year. Ahead of the release of Pressure & Persuasion, Frankie and I convened in opulent surroundings, sitting down in the corner of the canteen at a grandiose independent girls school to discuss her introduction to folk music and her brand new EP.
Welcome back to the cinematic world of Honeyglaze. It’s a world illuminated by the warm glow of the TV screen, the cold light of the mobile phone. On Real Deal, their sophomore album, the band invites us back into familiar surroundings, this time, with a newfound vigour. We caught up with Anouska Solokow (guitar, vocals), Yuri Shibuichi (drums) and Tim Curtis (bass) ahead of the record's release date to talk about the new album and the process of putting it together.
When Fat Dog first burst onto the scene with “King Of The Slugs” late last year, their arrival felt like a breath of fresh air against the backdrop of stagnating post-punk revivalists and a scene that was quickly losing its potency. Their full-fat party piece, with its tongue-in-cheek lyricism, chronicling slimy ascension to the apex of invertebrate monarchy immediately set them aside from the crowd. Little more than a year on, the band are poised to release their debut record WOOF via Domino Records. Ahead of the release, we had the opportunity to sit down with Joe Love, Chris Hughes, and Morgan Wallace on a rare day off to find out a little more about the bands journey to date and how they're adjusting to their new-found fame. “It’s fucking Fat Dog, baby!”
Los Bitchos stormed onto the British music scene back in 2019 like a wayward auntie into a staid family gathering, Samantha Jones with a bottle of tequila swinging freely by her side. To quote the patron saint of Manhattan herself, “I don’t believe in the Republican Party or the Democratic Party, I just believe in parties”. Since the release of their breakout single “Pista (Great Start)”, Los Bitchos have become the party that we believe in the most. Ahead of the release of their brand new record Talkie Talkie, we had the opportunity to catch up with Serra, Agustina, Josefine and Nic to find out about that famous Glastonbury set, managing life on the road and how their brand new album came together.
